Extensive studies regarding the roles of Vitamins D3 and K2 in calcium metabolism indicate that these two vitamins have a synergistic relationship, especially in supporting bone strength and cardiovascular health. Vitamin D3 is recognized for its role in immune health as well as calcium absorption and metabolism, while vitamin K2 is known to help direct calcium to bones rather than arteries and joint spaces.

Q & A (11)
I am 80 yrs old and have stenosis in my carotid arteries with 50% blockage. I have been taking K2-D3 for at least a year. Does this clear the arteries?
No. Vitamin D3 + K2 does not clear or clean arteries, and it is not able to remove an existing carotid plaque or reverse a 50% carotid stenosis. What D3/K2 can do: Vitamin D3 helps treat or prevent vitamin D deficiency and supports bone health (when deficient). Vitamin K2 is involved in normal blood-clotting pathways and may play a role in calcium handling in the bodybut this has not translated into reliable, proven artery-clearing benefits in clinical practice. What does have evidence for reducing stroke risk in carotid stenosis: Statin therapy (to lower LDL cholesterol; often high-intensity if tolerated). Blood pressure control. Antiplatelet therapy (e.g., aspirin or clopidogrel) if your clinician recommends it based on symptoms and overall risk. Smoking cessation, Mediterranean-style diet, regular physical activity, diabetes control (if applicable). Regular follow-up imaging (ultrasound) to monitor whether the stenosis is stable or progressing. Important safety note: If you take warfarin (Coumadin), vitamin K (including K2) can interfere with its effect. Do not start/stop or change K2 dosing without discussing it with your prescribing clinician and monitoring INR as advised. If you tell me whether you have had any symptoms (TIA/stroke, transient vision loss, weakness/numbness, speech difficulty) and what medications you are currently on (statin, aspirin/clopidogrel, anticoagulants), I can help you frame the most important questions to ask your doctor.
