Q & A (3)
Wanted to know these types of supplements are for Hyperthyroidism or Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism, which can be caused by too little iodine. Typically, iodine in the American diet is provided by iodized salt. This supplement provides the standard minimum required dosage of thyroid per day when you take a single capsule twice daily. There's probably zero downside to this EXCEPT that one should not be taking additional iodine if one's hypothyroidism is caused by an autoimmune disease, namely Hashimoto's. Before supplementing with iodine, have your doctor test your TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and T4 levels. Rule out Hashimoto's before taking an iodine supplement and don't take more than the RMD. About ninety percent of hypothyroidism in the U.S. is attributed to Hashimoto's disease, but there is an increase in iodine-deficiency . I don't use iodized salt. There are chemical hormone disruptors in the environment that contribute to hypothyroidism, such as flame retardants, BPA, phthalates, PCBS, and PFCF. See the new book "Sicker, Fatter, Poorer" to find out how to avoid them.
