Lotus Foods rices are selected for superior taste, fast and easy cooking, and nutritional value. We partner in fair trade with small family farmers to preserve local biodiversity and grow rice more sustainably. This means more healthy rice choices for you and your family, a cleaner environment, and improved quality of life for farmers.
Better For You
A colorful blend of prized traditional brown and red rice grown on West Java's mineral-rich volcanic soil. Aromatic and nutrient-dense, with minerals often lacking in modern diets, Volcano Rice cooks in only 30 minutes producing moist and tender grains - transforming any rice dish into a special meal.
Better For People
Volcano Rice is grown by members of the Simpatik Organik Cooperative, some 2,300 households farming small plots in Tasikmalays, West Java. Our price premiums translate directly into more income, better health, and brighter prospects for these families.
Better For The Plant
Flooding rice fields consume up to 1/3 of the earth's annual freshwater supplies. Our producers use System of Rice Intensification (SRI) Practices, which require a lot less water and seeds to produce more crop per drop. And drained fields emit little or no methane. We're taking rice production beyond organic!
More Crop Per Drop
50% less water + 90% less seed = 3X more rice
Suggested Use
Combine 1 3/4 cups water, 1 cup rice and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand covered for a few minutes. Fluff and serve.
A rice cooker may be used with the same water-to rice ratio.
1 cup raw rice yields 3 cups cooked rice
Use in any rice dish or cuisine, from savory to sweet. Great for pilafs, puddings, salads, soups, stir-fries, and stuffings. Or just enjoy steamed plain with a vegetable, seafood or meat entree.
Other Ingredients
Organic brown and red rice
